It is with deep sorrow that we announce our beloved matriarch, Nilda Bas, entered into eternal rest. Nilda was born on November 21, 1941 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico and moved to New York as a young child, where she remained until her passing on September 5, 2024. Nilda embodied immense strength, resilience, and love throughout her 82 years of life.
Predeceased by her parents, Jose Bas and Gloria Santiago, and several siblings. Nilda is survived by her devoted children: Angel (Carmen) Rivera, Nilda M. Morales, Arleen (Graham) Hyland, and Jeffrey (Sandra) Rivera. Her legacy continues on through her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews-each of whom carry the values she instilled in them.
Nilda's life was dedicated to family. She worked tirelessly, ensuring not only that her children were provided for, but that her extended family was nurtured as well. She helped raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with the same unwavering commitment and love. Her home was a sanctuary filled with warmth, laughter, and cherished memories, where every member of the family found comfort, guidance, and a plate of food always ready.
Nilda was fiercely independent. She lived on her own, supporting herself with grace and dignity until the very end. Her strength, determination, and unwavering spirit were a testament to her character-a true reflection of her ability to rise above life's challenges while remaining a source of strength for others.
As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate her life. Nilda's love will forever live in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her. Her impact on her family and community will echo through the generations, reminding us of the importance of love, resilience, and most of all familia. She will be profoundly missed but never forgotten, and her legacy will live on.
