Ridge Rd., followed by her entombment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to St. Padre Pio Institute of Rochester, 141 Frank Dimino Way, Rochester, NY 14624 in Ninetta's memory. Born April 16, 1934 in Siculiana, Sicily, Ninetta was the oldest of five girls (Ninetta, Maria Assunta, Vivian, Pina, and Lina) born to Giovani and Giovanna Marsala. Vivian is the only sister present today - the other three live in Sicily. As a young girl growing up in Siculiana, Ninetta lived through the Italian/German occupation of Sicily during WWII. She also witnessed the liberation of Sicily by the US troops in 1943. As a teenager, Ninetta spent much of her time caregiving to her four younger siblings, only attending school until the 5th grade. She enjoyed sewing embroidering. Ninetta met Frank in 1955 and they married in 1957 in Siculiana, Sicily. Shortly after getting married, Frank left for Brazil to work with his older brother Leonardo for two years, as a clothing salesman (other than farming, there weren't many good job opportunities in Siculiana at that time). While Frank was working in Brazil, Ninetta gave birth to their first child on May 1958 - a boy named Carmelo. Carmelo died in June 1960, shortly after Frank returned to Siculiana. Ninetta's second child, Josephine, was born in Siculiana in May 1961. Frank, Ninetta and Josephine immigrated to the United States in February 1963 by way of ship - a journey that took several weeks to get here. Frank was 34 and Ninetta was 28 and pregnant with Carm. Neither spoke English when they arrived. Carm was born in Rochester in October 1963. Frank and Ninetta bought their first house in 1966, the same house she lived in until her passing. Ninetta worked at Hickey Freeman as a seamstress from 1963 until 1985. In 1985, Ninetta quit working to watch the first of her four grandchildren, Phillip. Phillip was followed by Alivia, Maggie, and Patrick. Ninetta watched her grandchildren until 1999, until the last was old enough for school. Ninetta's grandchildren were her life - she absolutely adored them. After the last of her grandchildren went to school, Ninetta and Frank made frequent trips back to Siculiana, staying for a month or two at a time. In November 2014 Frank and Ninetta had Carmelo's remains brought to the US. Frank and Ninetta went to the cemetery every week to visit Carmelo. Ninetta loved to cook and knit.
