Ray
He was the clown & jokester of the family. He had 3 passions; Birds, Hunting & the Fire Hall.
He would make sure that all bird feeders were clean, full everyday and that they all had a clean filled bird bath (all 5 of them). He made many bird feeders and houses for family, friends and neighbors. He was very proud that his bird houses were always full of birds.
He was a volunteer fireman for over 45 years. He started with Greece Ridge and then to his beloved Spencerport and lastly Marion FD. He rushed out of the house each time his pager went off (no matter what he was doing). Many a meal had to be reheated in the microwave or manly duties were always put on hold when the siren rang.
His favorite passion was going up to camp to hunt, trim trails, chat with the guys, cut wood, visiting other hunters, riding the 3 wheelers and of course... feeding the birds. He would go any chance he had. He loved to grouse hunt with Donna's brother, Paul. Paul would bring his dogs to flush out the birds so they could shoot them down (more birds got away than made it to the table). It was good training for all. Hunting deer was his favorite. After many years, he finally got his 8 point buck, which of course is mounted and displayed in their Marion home. Donna would decorate it for holidays which did not go over well! He was very proud of that buck.
He had 3 daughters, Renee, Kelley, Marie; 6 grandkids & 2 brothers. He and his oldest brother, Moe, would cut, split and stack wood any chance they had. They enjoyed going to find wood left at the road, bring it home and stack it in Ray's lean to shed, then have a little libation and a bite to eat. Ray's other older brother, Bob, also hung out at camp to hunt and chat. They all enjoyed being at camp together.
He worked at Kodak for roughly 30 years and was a dimensional technologist. Always fixing machines and fixing parts so all would run well. He retired young and enjoyed many odd jobs in Spencerport, some of which included, weed wacking for the town, reading meters & cutting lawn at the local golf course. He always kept busy.
We had a trailer on Lake Ontario, in Lyndonville. We enjoyed hanging out together as a little getaway spot but often would have friends and family come to visit. Once we sold that, Ray bought his new 1999 White Dodge Ram Truck. He had to have it to haul all that wood and bring more stuff to camp.
He also loved small engine repair. He would always have a lawn mower, saw, weed wacker etc. to repair. He always said "I will have it fixed in no time" (which always meant weeks). The neighbors and I learned more swear words during that time and those repairs they could write a book. Some were Belgium words or just made up by Ray.
Mostly Ray was a fun guy to be around. He would help anyone with anything. He was everyone's fix it man and he loved it. Always the "go to guy" & will be deeply missed by all!
