Additional Information
Rich was born December 23, 1946, in Brooklyn, NY. He grew up in Queens and Long Island. His parents were John and Freda Vetter. John worked for USPS and Freda was a homemaker. His brothers and sister were, Robert, James, Tom and Nancy.
When Rich was 14 years old, his friends introduced him to a girl named, Laraine Carlson. They started dating, got engaged and then were married in 1966. They had a big church wedding and reception. Rich and Laraine were married for 47 years. During the early years of marriage, they had two children, a boy, Michael John, who later married, Julieen, and a girl, Viktoria Lee. From them, Rich became a grandpa to triplets named, Cody, Shayla and Shelby, and including a mother, Doris.
Rich was a Viet Nam Army Veteran. He drove a tractor trailer in Cam Rahn Bay, Viet Nam. He told everyone how he once jack knifed his truck and ripped off the top of the truck cab and almost rolled it down a mountain. Fortunately he ducked and didn't get hurt and the truck stopped right at the edge of the mountain.
He retired from Eastman Kodak after 30 years of service. He then worked for the HCSD, from which he retired in June, 2012. He worked for the Hilton United Methodist Church as a custodian for seventeen years, until his passing.
Rich was close to his family. He tried to spend time with his kids as often as possible. For the past 5 years, he's had a cockatiel named, Jack, which we thought was a boy, but turned out to be a girl!! Jack always gave a wolf whistle when Rich came in from outside.
Rich had an awesome personality. He was a very happy individual and always laughing and joking and wearing a smile. He enjoyed making people laugh. There were not many people that met him that didn't like him.
We are forever grateful and very blessed for having the best father and husband. He will be greatly missed by his family, and by all who knew him.
