Sam's parents came to the United States from Italy, where they grew roots and raised a very large famly. Unfortunately his dad died at a young age so Sam was needed to help support the family by working and providing for his sisters and brother. As a young man he worked in a flower shop. This is where his passion for tending to his gardens and lawn began. He really enjoyed working in the yard.
Sam also served in the United States Army, finding many life-long friends there. Further down the pike he worked for General Motors Delco Products for many years, retiring at the age of 55. He enjoyed retirement ever since.
He and his wife Betty and were married 65 years and had five beautiful children that they raised in Greece. Every year they took the whole family to Florida for Christmas and a visit with the grandparents. One year they came home with a dog named Pepper... much to the chagrin of Sam, but he eventually gave in to their crying and let them keep Pepper. Not too many years ago the family again vacationed in Florida where Sam Betty danced to Frank Sinatra's "My Way" one last time.
Sam Betty enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, going just about every year often with their sisters and brothers. The extended family was very close and spent all of the holidays with each other creating years of beautiful memories.
He loved to play Bingo, and he and Betty loved watching the Buffalo Bills play football every Sunday. Sam often visited the cemetery where his father was laid to rest on Saturday mornings to plant flowers on his grave. He always wanted it to look nice.
Sam sometimes mixed up his word pronunciation, giving the family a good chuckle, of course his grandchildren got the biggest kick out of it! Sam was always paying attention to what was going on in the world, watching the news whenever he could. He enjoyed listening to Frank Sinatra and Herb Alpert.
Dad had an amazing sense of humor always making people laugh. The funny things he would say are in our memories forever. As Sam got older his heart grew softer forming amazing relationships with his grandchildren. He truly loved his family dearly. He and his wife Betty grew to be inseparable, relying on each other's strengths and weaknesses the way a marriage should be, an amazing example of perseverance. The five words that best describe Sam are: Strong - Funny - Loving - Fun - Blessed.
