Gates: January 17, 2015. Predeceased by parents, Alphonse Susie Papa; sister, Eleanor Cantisano. Survived by wife, Anna M. (Spano) Papa; daughters, Lorraine (Al) Binsfield, Gail Ann Papa; granddaughter, Jennifer (Matt) Girardin; sisters, Lucille Amalfa, Irene Russo; several nieces, nephews, cousins dear friends.
Samuel's visitation will be 2-5 PM Wednesday at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Lane (between 390 Long Pond Rd). His funeral mass will be celebrated 9 AM on Thursday at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 4100 Lyell Rd, Rochester. Entombment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 in Samuel's memory.
In Sam's younger years, he enjoyed playing pool. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School. Sam served his country in the Army during WWII. Once back home, Sam became a member of the Doud Post #98. He remained very active in local veterans affairs and he regularly volunteered at the Doud Post.
He began his career as a model and he soon became a Mail Carrier for the US Postal Service.
Sam enjoyed the outdoors. He enjoyed spending his time in the field hunting rabbit and deer. He was accomplished not only with a long gun but archery as well.
Sam was a avid reader. He enjoyed mostly non-fictional readings. He was also a fan of baseball. For many years he was a season ticket holder for the Rochester Red Wings.
Sam's choice of music included country and jazz. He enjoyed watching football and baseball on TV. He participated in golf and bowling.
Family and friends would best describe Sam as someone who was well liked, social, and known to many as a very reliable person. He loved his family very much. Sam enjoyed all time spent with family especially at family picnics. He will be dearly missed.
