Sarah N. LaMendola

Sarah N. LaMendola
September 26, 1925 ~ March 21, 2023

Sarah N. LaMendola, a great-grandmother, a 70-year resident of Greece and a casino lover, died peacefully at her home on March 21 with her devoted daughter Donna by her side. She was 97.
"Sally" was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Terrana) Nicosia. She grew up near downtown Rochester, graduated from James Madison High School in 1943 and worked at Western Union before meeting her husband, the late Louis A. LaMendola, at a post-war dance.
They began their 59-year marriage in 1948, bought a house in Greece and raised four children: Donna Gloor (Richard) of Hilton, Karen Kelly (Joseph) of Palm Harbor, Fla., Bob LaMendola (Debra R. Gibbs) of Coconut Creek, Fla. and the late Janet Lodice Marvin (Paul Marvin), who left us in 2020.
She was pre-deceased by her husband in 2008, her parents, brother Peter Nicosia and great-granddaughter Molly Little.
She is survived by grandchildren Jason Lodice (Amy), Julie Little (Peter), Megan Kelly and Kristin Kelly, as well as six great-grandchildren (Joseph, Lauren, Mark and Jamie Lodice; and Samantha and Clara Little) and six siblings-in-law (Connie LaMendola, Nancy LaMendola, Gene and Connie LaMendola, and William and Phyllis Bartling).
Sally took pride in a clean house, politeness to strangers, her Sunday sauce, her homemade Sicilian pizza and her cookies, especially pizzelles. She generously shared gifts, her time and advice, and did not hesitate to lovingly note her family's flaws.
As her kids grew up, she went back to work in the office at National Technical Institute for the Deaf at Rochester Institute of Technology. As a retiree, she loved seeing her family, going to the casino with her sisters-in-law and having breakfast at the diner after Sunday mass.
Funeral services are being handled by Bartolomeo & Perotto Funeral Home. There will be no prior visitation. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 3003 Dewey Ave., Greece. Burial will be beside Lou in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
