Remembering Sharon E. Ciaccia

Sharon E. (Siino) Ciaccia was born on January 27, 1949, in Rochester, New York, to Joseph Siino and Margaret Mary (Sclafani) Siino. Growing up in a close-knit family, Sharon was the youngest of five siblings, joining her sisters Marie Siino, Rosemary Campagna, Jane Cordaro, and her brother Joseph Siino (aka, Jack or Butch). The Siino family owned a candy store on Parkway Avenue in Rochester, which not only served sweet treats but also featured a “booky joint” run from the back of the store. This unique business environment instilled in Sharon a sense of community and entrepreneurship from an early age.

Sharon attended St. Joe’s Business School, where she honed her skills and developed a keen interest in finance. Throughout her life, she engaged in various hobbies, including bowling, playing euchre, and enjoying bingo. Sharon was also known for her generous spirit and dedication to her community, often volunteering her time to help others in need.

Sharon’s career was diverse and dynamic. She began working as a supervisor at Burger King, showcasing her leadership abilities early on. She then transitioned to a role as a concession supervisor at the War Memorial, where she managed operations during events. Her experience also included bartending and as a bus monitor for Greece Central School District, reflecting her adaptability and willingness to support her community.

In addition to these roles, Sharon volunteered as a teacher of crafts at Edison Tech and participated in Camp Joy, where she taught skills to adults with disabilities. Her commitment to advocacy and education highlighted her passion for helping others.

On August 3, 1968, Sharon married Ronald A. Ciaccia at St. Anthony’s Church. Their love story began when Ron’s friend, Danny Pierce moved his house to an empty lot next door to Sharon on LaGrange Avenue. Ronald would ride his bike to LaGrange to hang out with Danny and Eddy Vincent. One day when he saw Sharon sitting on the front porch at Eddy’s house, he smiled at her, went to sit close to her, put his arm around her and kissed her. Sharon then ran home to tell her sisters. After that, Sharon and her friend Leslie LeRoy would often hang out with Ronald and his friends at Terrace Bowling.  The priest who married them was actually the principal from St. Joe’s, adding a personal touch to their union. Together, they welcomed a daughter, Margaret Mary Ciaccia, who became the center of Sharon’s world.

Sharon, Ron and Margaret enjoyed many adventures together, traveling to destinations like Alexandria Bay, the Thousand Islands, Disney World, and the Pocono Mountains. They traveled on cruises to the Caribbean on Celebrity Cruise Line and shared memorable experiences, including swimming with dolphins.

Sharon was deeply involved in her community and enjoyed participating in the Moose Club, where she formed lasting friendships. In 1978, Sharon was the cheerleading coach at John Marshall High School, where her niece, Rosemary, was a member of the team. She also coached several adult women’s softball leagues in which Rosemary participated. She was an enthusiastic participant in euchre tournaments and disco dance contests, reflecting her vibrant personality and love for fun. Her favorite music was disco, and she had a penchant for watching television shows like General Hospital, Chicago Fire, and The Golden Girls.

Sharon E. Ciaccia was known for her loving and caring nature. She was tough yet generous, always advocating for those in need and making a significant impact on the lives of those around her. Her daughter, Margaret, was the most important part of her life, bringing her joy and fulfillment. Sharon will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, and remembered for her unwavering spirit, kindness, and dedication to her family and community.
