Theodore “Ted” Voight

GREECE – December 23, 2024.

Ted was a loving, devoted husband and father who lived life with a smile and provided for others.   He married his high school sweetheart, Debby, and often they could be seen reaching for and holding each other’s hands. It was who they were…long time loves married for 54 years.  Together they created a loving family and home with three daughters, two sons-in-law, and nine grandchildren.  Every family gathering was an instant party filled with laughter, joy, teasing, hugs, and always lots of support for each other.

And that is just his immediate family.  The Voight family maintained, for many years, Christmas gatherings started by his parents that included four generations of Voights/Voigts, in-laws, and friends singing Christmas carols and reflecting on our gratitude for each other.  He was also blessed with many special memories with the Smith family, the McComber family, his General Motors buddies, lifetime friends, the Friday breakfast crew, and family at the Legion.  Oh, the stories they share about times with Ted including his high-school shenanigans, sailing around the Caribbean, snowmobiling trips, months of snow-birding in Florida, camping trips, and how Ted was there to lend them a helping hand.  Of course, Ted knew hardships throughout his life and he approached them with a can-do attitude… even though it may have taken him a long time to make that final decision.  He was a hardworking thinker who always found a way to take care of his family and close friends.

As a Dad and Gramps or Pop Pop, Ted’s kids and grandkids filled his heart with joy.  He was the best “girls” Dad!  We knew how much he loved us all.  He showed it every day.  From the 1980’s till just a few weeks ago, Ted was sitting on the sidelines or in the audience at our games, meets, musicals, concerts, art shows, school plays, and graduations.  He also helped us in so many ways including advice, a quick call, a listening ear, or as our personal handy man. He could build or fix anything and always jumped in to make our lives easier.  This included teaching us how to do it ourselves the next time.  It usually took longer because he was a mold maker (which required meticulous attention) but that meant we got extra quality time.

Without a doubt, Ted enjoyed spending time with others, and many times that included being outdoors. He found joy in so many ways.  The family camp at Sylvan Beach was his favorite place… where he spent his summers growing up, got in lots of good trouble with his twin brother, Tim, and where he found peace boating on the lake, fishing, or walking the beach.  He also loved his toys.  Ted loved riding motorcycles and drag racing his car in the early years.  Later, he enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, and boating with his family and friends.  As his kids grew up, he enjoyed cruising on his Harley and traveling across America with Debby on their fifth-wheel camper that had all the comforts of home.

Ted leaves us too soon but in his own way.  Enjoying life, smiling, and holding Debby’s hand.

Please join us to celebrate Ted’s life and share stories.

Ted is reunited with his parents, Charlotte & Werner Voight; his twin brother, Tim Voight; and other loved ones and cherished friends beyond his immediate family.  He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Debby (Smith) Voight; daughters, Stacia (Todd) Geib, Kara (Todd) LoTempio, & Erica Voight Morgan; grandchildren, Derek, Nolan Geib, Sadye, Kane, Khloe, Suri, Maddox LoTempio, Briella, & Willa Morgan; brother, Bill Voigt; sister Linda White; many nieces, nephews, cousins & dear friends.

Ted’s life story will be shared during his visitation, Thursday, Jan. 2nd, 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Lane, (Between 390 & Long Pond Rd.). His funeral service will be celebrated, Friday, Jan. 3rd, 11 AM at the funeral home. Immediately following, Ted will be laid to rest in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to American Legion Greece Post 468 in his memory, 344 Dorsey Rd, Rochester, NY 14616
