Venessa Singleton
Venessa Singleton was born on February 2, 1962 in Farmville, NC to Minnie and Russell Jordan.
Venessa met her husband, John Singleton III, when she was 15 and he was 17. They were married three years later when she was 18 and he was 20. They were married for 44 years. They had 3 children: Shamieka T. Singleton, Catina S. Singleton, and Latosha S. Singleton. They also had one granddaughter, Venessa S. Singleton, AKA Little Venessa.
Venessa was a military spouse of a retired Marine Corps Veteran. Venessa traveled a lot with her family, all over United States and the world. She lived in Japan for 3 years and visit Korea. Venessa worked administrative jobs and Child Care Teacher positions on Military Bases.
Venessa loved to travel. She enjoyed driving and did all the driving during trips. She also loved talking on the phone.
Venessa had a lot of close friends growing up in Rochester: Sandra, Pepper, Cathy, Link, Gwen and Pam. She met new friends during and after her family’s military tour which included: Bishop Little and wife, Mother Watson, Sister Cookie, Deacon Anderson, Patrice, Shizuyo and Willie.
Family was most important to Venessa. Her husband, children and granddaughter were the highlight of her life. Her other relatives and her church family were also very important to her.
Venessa leaves behind her husband of 44 years, John Singleton III, three daughters, Shamieka T. Singleton, Catina S. Singleton, and Latosha S. Singleton, and a granddaughter, Venessa S. Singleton. Also 6 siblings: Randy Johnson (predeceased), Russell Jordan, Ivan Jordan, Shown Conde, Ronnie Jordan (predeceased) and Jeffery Jordan. And a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Five words that would describe Venessa would be: kind, loving, caring, protective and conservative.
Her noted accomplishments are: molding her husband into the man he is today, making sure all her children were educated and that her grandchild had a normal life.
Venessa was loved by many people and will be greatly missed.
