Virginia L. Frasier

Virginia L. Frasier
May 7, 1919 ~ January 22, 2022

On May 7, 1919 Virginia Lennon Carpenter came into this world in the front room of a home in Lockport, NY. Born into a pandemic, it seemed only fitting that she would leave this world during similar circumstances. On January 22, 2022, at 102 years old, Virginia went home to be with her Heavenly Father.
Virginia is predeceased by her mother and father - Margaret Mary (née Lennon) and Charles Cecil Carpenter; her son - Charles Morhland; her husband - Norman Frasier; her four sisters, twins Joyce (Frank) Holowach and Jean Hurd, Carol Flanders, and Patricia (Kenneth) Kelkenberg; as well as nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends.
She will be dearly missed by her daughter Roberta Morhland Rowe; granddaughters April Lennon (Rowe) Sy and Amber (Ted Lestmeister) Rowe; her great-grandsons Duncan and Benjamin Sy, and Jackson and Lucas Rowe; nephews Frank (Pam) and Gary (Kathleen) Holowach, David (Susan) and Douglas (Linda) Hurd; nieces Sharon Dear, Laura Holowach, Sherry (Michael) Valentino, Christine Flanders, Linda (Michael) Palermo, and Kelly (Anthony) Copani, and countless neighbors and friends.
The eldest of five daughters, Virginia was a natural leader and caregiver. Graduating from Nursing School in Buffalo, NY she worked in private practices with doctors and finished her long career as head nurse of 2 North at what was previously known as Lockport Memorial Hospital. Having devoted herself to the care of patients at Lockport Memorial for many years, she continued her service in the gift shop and in the Hospital Guild into her late 90s.
Throughout the years, Virginia - or "Gin" or "Nana" as she was known by many - spent countless evenings knitting beautiful sets of mittens to give to friends, relatives, and the needy. There are a great many people all over the country still in possession of her beloved "Nana Mittens."
A lover of animals, Virginia took in many stray cats throughout her life. She fed the birds and squirrels throughout the winter and was the biggest fan of "The Zoo" and "Pitbulls and Parolees." Countless times she read the James Harriot book series as well as the poem, "All Things Bright and Beautiful." She would often sit in her chair and smile as she quoted,
"All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all."
In 1962 Virginia married a tall, dark, and handsome fellow by the name of Norman Frasier. These two dedicated servants were part of the first crews of Tri-Town Ambulance Company; Norm as driver and Virginia as nurse. Both held leadership positions at Gasport Chemical and Hose Company. In 2019, at the age of 100, Virginia finally retired as Treasurer of the Ladies' Auxiliary - a position she held for four decades.
Many who have long since been gone would recall fondly the days when Virginia and Norm would dance at local venues and parties. Norm was 6'7" tall and swept Virginia, a mere 5'4", across the dancefloor with ease. To watch them dance was grand. They were known as the "Fred and Ginger" of Niagara County. Today, may we smile knowing that they are now back together, dancing on streets of gold.
Gatherings with friends and family will be held on a future date. If you would like to make a contribution in Virginia's name, please consider giving to the Whispering River Rescue in Gasport, NY, https://www.whisperingriverrescue.com/ a place that lives out her passion and love for rescuing and caring for all creatures great and small.
