Virginia M. (Unger) Stocks Greece - February 5, 2022. Virginia is predeceased by her husband Robert Stocks. She is survived by her children, James (Katherine) Stocks, Robert Gordon (Mary Ellen) Stocks, Jr., Stephen Stocks, Christopher (Rosalie) Stocks & Mary Beth (Christopher) Luther; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews & dear friends. Virginia's life story will be shared during her visitation at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Lane (Between 390 & Long Pond Rd.), Monday, February 14th, 3-7 PM. Her funeral service will be celebrated, Tuesday, February 15th, 10:30 AM at the funeral home, followed by her being laid to rest in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Virginia's Life Story Virginia was born on September 15, 1921, to parents Edward Unger and Hazel Brown here in Rochester, NY. She was one of two children, along with her sister, Audrey (Unger) Brown. When Virginia grew up, she attended the University of Buffalo and earned her Registered Nursing Degree. The career path of nursing would define many of the events in Virginia's life, including her time serving in WWII. On May 6, 1943, Virginia began her military career and entered active duty. She was part of the Army Nurse Corps and rose to the rank of 1st Lieutenant by the time of her discharge on March 18, 1946. She earned the honors of the American Campaign Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. While Virginia was in Europe during the war, she met Robert G. Stocks. They married in Nancy, France. They had not one, but three marriage ceremonies! First, they were married by the base chaplain, then they were married by the town's mayor, and finally they were married in a Catholic Church here in the US. For this reason, their anniversaries were on both the first and second of November. Later, Virginia joined the workforce as a registered nurse for the Greece Central School District. She and Robert were blessed with five children: James, Robert Gordon, Jr., Stephen, Christopher, and Mary Beth. The family built a cottage in Fair Haven, NY and spent their summers there. After retirement, the couple spent their winters in Gulf Shores, AL, far away from the cold weather. Virginia was a kind, gentle, and loving woman. She extended this loving kindness to the animals in her family, which included Taffy the cocker spaniel her cats Mitsi, Simon, and Garfunkel. She was intelligent, and, even into her elderly years, remained very sharp. She liked listening to the news, reading, politics and current events, and quilting. Virginia also loved spending time with her loved ones, including close friends, Bob and Joan Albone and Jack and Dorothy Ryan. She enjoyed musicals and attended many with her daughter, Mary Beth. They subscribed to RBTL and also traveled to Toronto on occasion to see productions there. Virginia treasured her family and she is greatly missed.
