William M. Sperr, affectionately known as "Bill," 62, of Chili, died unexpectedly Saturday, Dec. 28, 2019. Bill was born on April 15, 1957, in Rochester, NY, and was a lifelong resident of the area. He attended Cardinal Mooney High School in Greece and received his B.S. in Biochemistry from Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY. He worked for Kodak during and after its transition to Genencor International as a technical specialist, engineer, and supervisor before turning to landscaping for the remainder of his life. He was honest, forthright, and a hard worker, known for coming home from a day cutting down trees only to head back outside and do yardwork for fun. An avid outdoorsman and gentleman farmer, Bill's hobbies included hunting, fishing, running, cycling, kayaking, shooting, and gardening. He was particularly proud of the absurd variety of thriving shrubs and fruit trees cultivated in his backyard and loved turning his labors into pies and hard ciders to share with family and friends. He enjoyed nothing more than spending time outside with his nieces and nephews, mentoring and teasing them in equal measure and sharing his love for his hobbies. Even more important than getting his big buck, he loved guiding others to get theirs. He is predeceased by his siblings, Jim Sperr, Mary Ellen Maloney, Barbara Koons, and Andrew "A.J." Sperr. He is survived by Mary (nee Ropelewski), his loving wife of 35 years, his wonderful sons Tim and Ben, his parents Andrew and Jean, his siblings Nancy (Mike) Iafrati, Dan (Sandy) Sperr, John (Sheila) Sperr, Judy (Jeff) Bennett, Patty (Chris) Ryan, and Katie (Jonathon) Krotz, his in-laws Karen Sperr, Patrick Maloney, and Ralph Koons, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and dear friends. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 3 from 2 - 4 p.m. and from 6 - 8 p.m. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 4 at the Bartolomeo Perotto funeral home. Sperr Memorial Scholarship Fund at MCC 1000 E. Henrietta Rd, Rochester, NY 14623 Bill had a tremendous impact on nearly everyone he met. He was a great father, a loving husband, and a wise friend.
