Barbara Jean Masi, a beacon of warmth, generosity, and love, was born in Elmira, NY. She was blessed to grow up surrounded by a large extended family, including her loving sisters and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Her childhood adventures in Elmira filled her with cherished memories—from sleepovers and visiting family to riding her bike through town and getting mischievous at the farm.
After graduating from Horseheads High School, Barb pursued her passion for hair styling, graduating from Beauty School in Elmira. Looking for new opportunities, she moved to Rochester, NY, to start her career as a beautician at a salon on Monroe Ave. It was in Rochester that she met the love of her life, George Masi. Together, they built a beautiful life and welcomed two children, Sherri and George.
Following the loss of her beloved husband George, Barb showed immense strength and dedication. She created a warm, nurturing home for her small children, filling their lives with love, laughter, and wonderful food. A natural host, Barb, loved to entertain friends and family, and her generosity was felt by all who knew her. To balance her career with being a devoted mother, she set up a beauty room at home, continuing her hairdressing while ensuring she was there for her children.
She filled her family’s life with unforgettable experiences, from caring for cherished family pets to traveling with friends and family, ensuring holidays and family gatherings were magical.
Barb found love and companionship again when she met John Del Vecchio. They shared a wonderful life together, centered on their love of family, friends, and laughter. Her home continued to be the heart of the family, a place where all the kids gathered, stories were shared, cards were played, and everyone felt welcomed. She raised happy, vibrant children who could light up any room.
As her family grew, Barb was blessed with four grandchildren, all of whom she adored. She was their biggest supporter, rarely missing a sporting event or special occasion. She took immense joy in watching them grow up, pursue college, start careers, and find love. After the tragic loss of her daughter, she remained a pillar of strength for her family and felt deeply blessed to welcome her beautiful great-grandson, Brady.
A caregiver at heart, Barb served as an Aide at Rochester General Hospital, taking care of others with the same gentleness, she showed her family.
Barb wanted everyone to know that she was blessed with wonderful doctors and nurses taking care of her, and she felt immense pride in her “wonderful family.” She loved her family, and her family loved her deeply.
