  1. I am so sorry to hear about Barry’s passing, and send my sincere condolences to the Wharity family.

Barry was my mentor and coach and hired me as a sales representative in Canada in 1988, and transferred me to Rochester NY in 1998 as his VP. I owe my career, and indirectly, my US citizenship to him! Barry held the bar high for his team and staff pushing for perfection, which I appreciated. One time, in a senior staff meeting we were reviewing one of our competitors’ catalogs and the team indicated how good it was. Barry got agitated, picked up the book and tossed it in the corner and said, “we need to lead not follow. We need to set the bar for our competition to try and reach”.

As well as pushing his team, Barry had a gut splitting sense of humor. One time in a team meeting, I was wearing short socks. I should preface this by saying Barry was a very well dressed executive. He saw my bare ankles, and that got him going. He told me that I need to cover those up, and he took off his shoes and gave me his knee-high socks. I laughed until tears came out of my eyes Who does that? Barry! I can assure you that a sock upgrade occurred after that in my wardrobe. I’m smiling just remembering that episode.

Rest in peace Barry, rest in peace.

  2. I was so sorry to hear about Barry. His dedication in walking his pooches (or they sometimes walking him) was unmatched. When catching up on neighborhood sidewalks, Barry always greeted with a bright smile and a cheery welcome. May he rest in peace. Kathy, sending you hugs and prayers.

  3. I am so sorry for your loss. Your family is on my thoughts and prayers. I owe so much to Barry. He gave me my start and taught me so much over the years. I would not have had a great career without him. He will be missed.

  4. Kathy, Brendan, Shannin & Family,
We were saddened to learn of Barry’s passing. We know the grief runs deep and want you to know you are in our thoughts. It used to be so nice seeing Barry walking the dog in the neighborhood. Our daughter spent so much time with your family and we remember a wonderful meal with you guys when we vacationed one year at the same time in Florida. Those were good days.
