Remembering Mom
Is there is a special place in heaven for a mother of 10 children?
Whenever I would tell someone that I am one of 10, their response was always the same. Your Mother is a Saint.
I never really knew what that meant until I started to reflect on what she meant to me and everyone in her life.
When you are the mother of 10 children, your priorities are not about keeping your house spotless, or keeping up with the Jones’s. It is far from it.
It’s about Family, friends and God. Mom’s favorite saying when things were a little tough – God will provide.
Mom was a devoted wife – She loved dad with all her heart. We always knew this was the case, especially recently after finding letters and her telling us from her hospital bed why she said YES to dad.
Mom was devoted to her family (Mother / Mother-in-law / Grandmother / Great Grandmother)
Mom was a devote Catholic. (10 Children) We all went to Catholic Elementary, Middle and High Schools. She went to mass every Sunday and if she could not go, she would watch it on her iPad. (When she could get it to work) Even when we went camping, we would have to drive around and look for a church so we could attend mass.
She loved her rosaries and loved saying it.
She was a bit of a sports nut to. She loved her Buffalo Bills and her Syracuse Basketball.
She would call to remind you about an upcoming game and if they won, she would call again to talk about what a great game it was.
Never call her during a Cuse basketball game. And if she could not watch it, she would record it, so you better not tell her the outcome before she’ had a chance to watch it.
Mom was everyone’s biggest fan.
She drove us around to all our activities and then stayed to watch. Sometimes running out of gas or driving through a blinding snowstorm, she was there for us. She even found time to bowl in a league herself and for those of us that were around got to watch and cheer her on.
She knew her grandkids schedules, and if she didn’t, she would call to get it. It did not matter what sport you were playing. And there were many.
Let’s not forget all the non-sporting events she couldn’t miss. School concerts, school plays, marching band, choir, dance recitals, all the graduations, and everything else I may have forgotten.
The thing about mom was she, didn’t have to be involved but always wanted to be included. She would watch, laugh and cheer. That’s all she ever wanted to do.
She felt your pain when you lost and shared in your joy when you won.
Mom’s nickname was Gamblin’ Grandma. The name says it all, she loved to gamble.
From going to the casino to play the slot machines to playing dice and cards at all of our family gatherings to playing squares for football and basketball games.
If you won on the squares, she was sure to call to let you know.
It didn’t matter if she won or lost as long as we were all together and having fun.
Family was by far the most important part of her life.
She created a very welcoming and caring home. There was never too many at the table.
The grandkids always looked forward to going to Grandma’s house. They could always count on Grandma to welcome them with open arms, huge hugs and all kinds of kisses.
She loved her arms and face tickled. There is not one sibling or grandchild that did not enjoy this time with grandma.
Mom was always there for us. Not matter how big or how small, she had a way about her to make us feel better.
She loved her shopping trips with all the girls to Reading every year. She treasured this time with her sisters Doris and Mary. Plus, it was an opportunity to get into trouble with these crazy ladies. One year so the story goes, mom tried on a pair of shoes. She went to put her shoes back on and didn’t recognize her own shoes. They were Reebok sneakers and she said “these are not mine. I don’t have Reebok”. She had to be convinced they were her shoes.
Mom loved to sing and love to dance. Even when her feet wouldn’t allow it, the wheel chair took over.
Mom loved family camping.
Let’s not forget mom’s crazy friends. Some left us too soon while others are still around to continue their mischievous ways. She loved you like sisters.
Mom was the most loving Mom and Grandma. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren.
She would always say that all of us were so good looking, there’s not an ugly one in the bunch.
Mom loved being with the family so much that even as mom lay so sick in the hospital, she kept saying that it was better than winning a million dollars because she had her whole family gathered around her.
Mom was our mother first and then she became our friend. But she was always our Superhero.
So, to answer the question, YES there is a special place in heaven for a mother of 10 children.
I believe that place is at the right hand of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Thank you Kathy and all the Lennox kids for sharing your mom with us for the past 40 years. It was a pleasure and an honor to know and love that beautiful soul. She was the sweetest, happiest mother I’ve ever met! She always made us feel like a part of the family! You will be truly missed, Carol. We’ll alway have our shopping trip memories!! ❤
Even though Carol (and Ed) had their own big family to care for, Carol took on our son, David, for about 3 years before he went to school. She loved him all day while we were at work. And all these years since, she’s wanted to hear all about him and his family whenever I happened to see her. She was a blessing for us! Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Ed and all of their family.
We have been neighbors with the Lennox family for over 30 years. Couldn’t ask for nicer people or better neighbors. We will miss their friendship greatly.
