Cheryl A. Breitenbuecher

October 2, 1948 ~ January 25, 2026

Born in: Rochester, NY
Resided in: Rochester, NY

Cheryl was born in Rochester, New York, the daughter of Nelda Eichel Breitenbuecher and Robert William Breitenbuecher. A 1966 graduate of Charlotte High School, she received her BA in English from Valparaiso University, and a Master’s Degree in Technology from RIT. She worked for the University of Rochester for 40 years.

Cheryl had a gift for drawing and painting, playing piano, crocheting and needlework. She enjoyed traveling, and genealogy. But her greatest love by far was reading. Her private library included over 3,000 books. She had a keen interest in history, particularly that of the Thousand Islands area, where she had many wonderful times with her extended family.

She is survived by her brother Bill and his partner Michael Gardner, and her cousins, who were more like siblings, Judy Cook, Debbie Wahl, and John and Susan Ladwig. Watching their children grow and having families of their own brought her great joy.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 2:30 PM in the chapel of the Episcopal Church Home, 505 Mt. Hope Ave. Rochester, NY 14620.

Donations in her memory may be made to The Friends & Foundation of the Rochester Public Library (FFRPL).
