  8. To the Salamone family:
Please accept my sincere condolences on your loss.
I’m an old friend of Don and Vince from their early years living on Upton Park in the city. This was before high school and our days were filled with football in the street in front of our homes and hours of basketball in Salamone’s backyard at 19 Upton Park. Salamone’s house was a gathering place and their Dad always came home from work and joined the fun. Many, many fond memories. Even at that early age Don was a solid guy you could always count on. I am so sorry for your loss – you all should have had many more years with Don.

  9. There are no words to tell you how deeply sorry we are for your family. Don always had a warm and welcoming smile.
Please know you’re in our hearts and prayers.

  10. I, like Jim McCarthy, and others you’ll eventually hear from who were at Fisher with Donny are so saddened by this, and want to extend our condolences and prayers to you and your family. I met Don through another Aquinas guy, Mike Ryan, and it didn’t take long for Don and me to become best friends. We were ‘linemen’ and we were tough. We played football, pushed ourselves, and battled others like warriors for a couple years. Some of my fondest memories are because of him. He was funny, had a grin that renained with him forever, and was the guy who had your back whenever needed. I spent a summer working with him and his Dad. That’s another set of stories that I’ll always remember. For me, I was very lucky to be a part of Donny’s world. He will always be in my heart too. My hope is that all the memories of him over time will help to alleviate the sorrow.

  11. Patty and family, Our deepest sympathy for you and your family. As you know I knew Don and his family from the old neighborhood on Upton and Rundell Parks. They were a very close family. After Billy sold Ricks we missed seeing both of you during your monthly visits there and hearing the about your daughters accomplishments as they were growing up. Our prayers are with your entire family and prayers for peace during this time. Billy & BR

  12. Don was a special friend who had a tremendous mental discipline and stood by his convictions.

As one of the pillars of the beginning of the “Fisher Football” program (the first two years) he had a passion to compete and helped set a standard for all.

He was one of the key “Football Club” decision makers that could not tolerate losing and helped lead the coaching transition that led to a successful winning season in year two and set the foundation for what was to come.

That history is long forgotten or ignored, but Don was there when it counted AND made a difference.

Never to be forgotten is when Fisher Football team players / Don’s friends would show up at the Salamone house. Mrs Salamone would offer to fix something for the players to eat” and 15-20 minutes later it was a pasta spread!

A memory and example are the special hugs that Don and his father would share with hearty affection.

Peace and Blessing to Don and Family

    Sincerely
    Jim / Mac McCarthy
