Fredericka (Freddi) Macek passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025 at the Mount Carmel Comfort Care Home.
Freddi was born on August 21, 1940 in Utica, New York to Frederick and Julianna Macek. She grew up with two sisters, Susann and Jayne, and worked at a local bakery while going to school at Whitesboro High School. After graduating high school, she received her bachelor’s degree in Social Studies from Utica College and completed her graduate work in Early Childhood Education.
Freddi was an elementary school teacher for 33 years in the Rochester City School District and a dedicated labor union advocate and leader in retirement! For years, Freddi worked with the Rochester Teachers Association (RTA) and the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) holding both elected and appointed positions including that of Vice-President of the RTA.
After retirement, she continued her union work as labor liaison for NYSUT Retiree Council 5. She also held the position of Rochester Central Labor Council AFL/CIO Retiree Committee Chair Coordinator and passionately led the Rochester area election phone banks.
Listing all of Freddi’s friends to thank would be impossible, but please know your friendship, love, calls, cards, flowers, and visits meant the world to her. The family would especially like to thank the Hospice Care Team at Highland Hospital as well as the staff at Mount Carmel Comfort Care Home in Hilton, NY for their compassion and kindness during Freddi’s illness.
Freddi leaves behind her niece, Lisa and her husband, Chris Davis. She is also survived by her nephew Joel Meyers. Freddi was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Judy Macek, her sisters, Jayne Meyers and Susann Mlynarski; and brother-in-law, Ray Mlynarski.
Freddi’s celebration service will be Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 9:30am at Our Lady Queen of Peace, 601 Edgewood Dr, Rochester NY 14618. She will be laid to rest with her parents in Whitesboro, New York at the convenience of the family.
