Gunnar Lang-Ree, age 85, passed away of natural causes at Strong Memorial Hospital on Monday April 6, 2020. He was first and foremost a dedicated and loving family man who will be sorely missed. Gunnar is survived by his son, Bjorn (wife Anne Pierok) and daughter Anita; Elsa Lang-Ree; Wilma Olsen and many nieces and nephews in Norway. He was pre-deceased by his parents Einar (Galgum) Lang-Ree and Olave (nee Viker); brother Knut (Karen Dalsveen). Born April 25, 1934 on his family farm outside Harmar, Norway, Gunnar grew up during the WWII occupation, earned his degree in electrical engineering at the Institute of Koping Sweden, and emigrated to America in 1962 with his wife Elsa, and son Bjorn. They settled in Baltimore, MD where daughter Anita was born. Gunnar worked most of his years as an engineer with Baltimore Gas and Electric Company and later moved with his family to Rochester, NY to work with General Railway Signal Company (GRS), from which he retired in 1999. In retirement Gunnar stayed active traveling, socializing with friends, skiing with the "old fogies", enjoying the Funraisers social club, and making beautiful furniture in his woodworking shop. Gunnar's Norwegian heritage was "in his bones" and was a lifetime member of the Sons of Norway organization. The family thanks Dr. Robert Kerper for the outstanding care and quality of life provided to Gunnar these past 20 years. The celebration of Gunnar's life will be held at a later time when we can freely assemble, share our remembrances, and have a memorial for him at Whitehaven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Foodlink organization to support the good work they do www.foodlinkny.org
