He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kathryn; daughters Pam Franklin and her children Dakota, Garrett, and Blake (Vail, AZ); daughter Lori Purcell and her children Jacob, Joshua, and Allison (Rochester, NY); son Bill and his wife Marcey Garno and their children Bailey, Ellie, and Simon (Hilton, NY); Greg and his wife Jenn Garno and their children Olivia, Charlie, and Henry (Falls Church, VA); brothers Edward Garno (Lowell, MA) and Kenneth Garno (Syracuse, NY) and sister Margaret and her husband 'Mac' McKinstry (Oswego, NY). Donations In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the American Lung Association. Services Tom's Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Tuesday, November 22 at St. Lawrence Church (1000 North Greece Rd). Tom's visitation will be on Tuesday, November 22, 4-7 PM at the Funeral Home, 1411 Vintage Lane (between 390 Long Pond Rd). Additional Information Tom was born in Oswego, NY in 1937. He was a graduate of Oswego High School and State University of New York at Albany where he achieved Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Latin. It was there he also met Kathryn. After teaching jobs in Gloversville and Central Square, NY, Tom and his family settled in Hilton, NY in 1969 where he became a Latin teacher at Hilton High School. He remained in the Hilton School District until his retirement in 1992, working also as a Vice Principal and Principal at the high school, and finally Principal at Merton Williams Junior High. Tom was an active supporter of Hilton's Drama Club, sports teams, and Marching Band, all activities in which his children were involved. In addition to countless hours of time spent supporting his children's interests, he was an amateur birder, an avid reader and lover of all types of puzzles. Weekends would often find him and Kathryn playing bridge, pinochle, or other games with friends. Tom and Kathryn retired to the Polo Park community outside of Orlando, FL, in 1992. He remained active as a volunteer in Polo Park as part of the Neighborhood Watch, the board of elections, and an organizer of a weekly billiards club. His volunteerism extended to the larger community as well, through his work supporting Orlando World Cup 1994 and St. Faustina Catholic Church where he led fund raising efforts to build a new church, was a lector and Eucharistic minister.
