Linda and Ted Georgian Relation to Deceased: neice Uncle Harry was the only one in the family who called me Lin. He always smiled when he said it, like it was a special joke between just the two of us. When I went to visit him the last time, he was confused by everyone calling me Linda, until I said “Uncle Harry you know my name is Lin”. He smiled and said I know you. Laurie thank you for the loving care you gave to Uncle Harry. He could not have had better. The butterfly emerges from its silken shell- Reborn, it arises, no longer bound to earth. Free at last, the butterfly glides to heights unknown before. So do our loved ones find a beautiful release as, earthbound no more, they leave our sight and joyfully rise to a garden of matchless beauty, a place of light and peace. -Evelyn Phillips
Jim Hare Relation to Deceased: Nephew Uncle Harry is someone I always looked up to. He and his brother Uncle Del gave me the inspiration at a young age to become a firefighter and to become a leader in the fire service. Later in life I think this gave us a common bond. He also shared his vast knowledge letting me work with him and helping with remodeling and maintenance on his building for his new business. These are two things I will always remember. Thank you Uncle Harry May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of His hand. An Old Irish Blessing
Gene Preston Relation to Deceased: Lifelong Friend/Neighbor Dear Laura & family, You have my sincere sympathy at this difficult time.Harry’s passing closes the book on a wonderful life. He was my life long friend, fellow North Greece firefighter, farmer, hunter and neighbor. I remember how he and my late dad, “Cap” Preston together with Maiden Lane farmers Gerard DeMeyer, Al Pollet, Louie Coene, Al DeConinck and others all hung out together. They all worked hard and played hard. I recall restoring my old Seagrave fire engine. Harry stopped by and gave me factory photos and manuals he had from when he inspected the vehicle as it was being built in Columbus, Ohio in 1958. He gave them to me with his familiar smile and said, “They’re yours now.” Harry was respected as a good firefighter and fire officer. He trained many to be better firefighters. Harry was a member of my dad’s Canisteo, NY hunting gang. He seldom missed when shooting at a deer. So now he is gone, but not even death can take away the many fond memories we have of our good buddy. Thanks for being part of my life Harry Ellis. Rest easy old pal.
