  1. Dear Diane.I remember her well please Accept my deepest prayers and condolences.Your whole family is so gifted and talented.Your parents are to be commended for seeing to it that you all got excellent educations. They were so kind and generous.I remember Sunday dinner at your house and your father’s wine. Love Katie Gormley Read

  2. Isabelle was such a kind and talented person, and she was generous with her gifts. It used to be that the first word that would pop into my head when I would think of Isabelle was “music”. But more recently, my memories of her many kindnesses to our family when my mother was sick resonate the most. She was a very positive force in this world and she will be missed by many. My family offers heartfelt condolences to the wonderful family that is grieving the loss while also celebrating a life very well lived.

  3. Isabelle was the music teacher for alll of our children, and, they all loved her so much. Her ready smile and continual enthusiasm was infectious. Our one daughter just wrote to us that music was her favorite time at Kirk Road. I remember helping with the cutest musical play that my son was in that she organized at the school called Of Mice and Mozart!
Our family was so saddened to hear of her passing- we all are out of state during this time, but, please know we are there with you and are thinking of Isabelle, and all her family daily. You have so many wonderful memories of your times together.

  4. My memories run back to the early 70s when I passed out books for the folk group Mass at Mother of Sorrows. By this time, Mrs S had passed the torch to the second director but even I knew she was the originator — I was 6 or 7. Not too much later, she became my teacher at Kirk Road School. Now I knew why people remembered her — she made class so fun. She encouraged me to join the choir in 4th grade, something I have kept up ever since — ironically delivering me to Mr Zecchino at Arcadia years later, whom she spent years with herself in Greece Choral Society. I also spent 8 years in the Mother of Sorrows folk group with the 3rd and 4th directors.

Music is a part of every day, even my path into church music (how I met my husband of 17 years) and his 2nd job as music director at a church in Pen/Web.

I am so very grateful for her criss-crossing through my life, the effect she had was greater than I can measure!

God bless you all and know she was loved by one more!

  5. Hello, I sat next to Isabelle often in Greece choral society music rehearsal, and she was always so sweet and kind to me. I remember when she heard me sing, she said ‘I need to get you to come sing at the Greece garden tour!’. And for years after that, I sang there every year thanks to her. It was so poignant to me that I recently received a letter letting me know she was cancelling the garden tour this year. I had planned to tell her how sorry I was to hear it when I saw her the following Monday for rehearsal. But she wasn’t there, and then I found out she was in the hospital. I will always regret I didn’t call her right away when I got the letter, just to tell her how much I’d enjoyed singing in the tour all those years….
I know Heaven has a new angel singing in their choir, but I will really miss her being with us at rehearsal and in concerts. Sincerely, Linda Berky

  6. My deepest condolences to the Sciscioli and Scalise family on the passing of Isabelle. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this most difficult time.

  7. Isabelle and I were classmates at Nazareth College, class of 1955. Many years ago on Thanksgiving Day she sang the Ave Maria at our Wedding Mass and played the piano at our reception. We were indebted to her kindness, musical talent and beautiful voice. Even though separated by miles , we remained close friends. We will miss her.

  8. I was so sad to read of Isabelle’s death. I work at Shore Acres where Isabelle played in a golf league. We both enjoyed the Arts, working crossword puzzles, and movies, so we had a lot to discuss every week. She was a lovely, lovely woman and I will miss her very much.

  9. Isabell was an amazing music teacher. She also had me in chorus as she told me I had a beautiful voice my inspiration tanks so much for that best time in my life. She also had taught my mom ,my Uncle Tom Whitmore s, my sister Christine Boucher’s teacher she was such an inspiration to me. I was so blessed for her to be a family friend too. I can’t think of anyone who didn’t love her.My thoughts&prayers are with her family in their time of morning .Just know that Isabell touched so many hearts& souls now she’s touching more in heaven teaching them how to sing.I remember going over to her house&visiting with her very wonderful times. Heart of gold, voice of an Angel

  10. Allen and Family – my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. The loss of a loved one is very difficult, if there is anything I can do, please let me know.

    Regards,

  11. I am so very sorry to hear about the passing of Mrs. Scalise. She was a new teacher when I was in Grade School #7. I remember when she got married – the whole school loved it. She and Mr. Scalise were invited to dinner at our house more than once. There were 5 of us at #7 for a couple of years, then 4-3-2-1. The “Woods Kids” were pretty well known back then. My folks adored Isabelle, too.

Isabelle gave us music. We learned about it, sang it, played it, and loved it. I think we all have a love for music that truly was given to us by our wonderful Mrs. Scalise. She is one of the teachers I remember who encouraged me through some tough childhood times.

Years later, I had been gone from Rochester, and returned to go to college at SUNY Brockport in the Theater Department. Over the summer, there were classes for Teachers taking place. I was walking down the hall, and who should be standing right in front of me, but Isabelle Scalise. The minute she saw me, she knew who I was, and immediately ran down the list of all my brothers and sisters wanting to know how we all were.

She is, was, and always will be one of the most important teachers in my life. Bless all of you for the gift of having her for so many wonderful years.

    Carol (Woods) Thompson

  12. Isabelle was a fellow classmate at Nazareth College 1955. A loyal Naz graduate who helped keep not only our class involved but also her friends at Jefferson High. Beautiful voice, wonderful person who will be sadly missed by all.

  13. Every time we think of Isabelle we smile, as she was always smiling back at us! Always happy and always thinking of others. Always willing to lend an extra hand and go out of her way to help. That’s what a wonderful and special lady Isabelle was. Her beautiful voice stays with you always. Her family always so close to her heart! My mom talks about growing up together, going to school together and all their years together and what wonderful times they had. We hope that beautiful and special memories of your mother bring comfort to your heart. With our love and sympathy.

  14. Thoughts and prayers to her family. She will be missed. I remember her ta ta ti-ti ta lessons and my test for chorus at Kirk Road, the classic Way Down Upon A Swanee River. I made it to chorus, but soon became a chorus drop out realizing I wasn’t blessed with the talent needed. She was always supportive. Enjoy “roaming” heaven Mrs. Scalise!

  15. She was always one of my favorite teachers and she is truly missed. I will never forget her encouragement for me to get involved in chorus. And I will never forget the time she got us kids to sign in the Russian Opera at Eastman Theater with the RPO. That was an amazing experience for us kids. Thank You for bringing the gift of music into my life more and for always being so caring and dedicated to the children. May God continue to bless you and your family as now you are on the most heavenly of stages!

  16. In memory or Isabelle Scalise – The memory of your beautiful voice will live in my heart forever.

  17. I’m sure you will play lovely music in heaven. My sympathy to all your family. I shall miss you Issie. Love forever,
Your playmate and cugina. Joyce Columbe

  18. I met Isabelle in M.O.S. folk group. I think I was in jr. high. She was a great leader. I was in the folk group with her till I got married. We had lots of fun with her at practices. We even made a record. I really enjoyed being in folk group with her as our leader. I hadn’t seen her in a long time till I joined Greece Choral Society 15 years ago. She was great with her music. When we had an anniversary for choir all of Ralph Zecchino students got together at her house practicing Your the Top for Ralph. I’ll never forget her. She will be missed by everybody. Joyce

  19. During my elementary school years, Mrs. Scalise was my beacon of light. I am incredibly grateful for everything that she taught me. As my first formal music teacher, she truly impacted and shaped my entire life. I am unable to attend the services – because I live too far away – so I am sharing my story to let her family know how much she meant to me. As I have always done, I will continue to carry her spirit and pay tribute to her each time I perform a song. Thank you for being such a wonderful influence in my life. Your song will live on through the many lives that you touched.

  20. To Isabelle and her family:
As a fellow Greece central music teacher, I appreciated Isabelle’s mentoring during my early years in the district. I looked up to her, admired her, and often asked her advice. She, like many of us over our 35+ year career, touched so many lives while teaching general music, choruses, and plentiful extra curricular activities. She was a woman of stature, and she will be missed. God bless her, and the many, many memories she leaves behind!!
    MJ.

  22. We will miss her constant support of our programs and work, her loving smile, and gracious encouragement.
