  1. Jim was the pastor at Asbury First UMC in Rochester responsible for setting up my chance to ask Elizabeth out on our first date – the newcomers/oldtimers dinner at Canandaigua Yacht Club. The evening was spent in delightful conversation with Dr. and Mrs. Forbes, and about a year later, Jim married us at Asbury. Our children have been raised in the church. We haven’t kept in touch after Jim moved to Liverpool, but the details of his life shared in the obituary reinforce our memories of Jim at Asbury. He was a good person who happened to be an effective pastor.

  2. I was Jim LeGro’s roommate at the University of Rochester in 1958-59 at Tiernan Dorm & 1959-60 at the Theta Delta Chi fraternity. We got along well & had some contact after we each graduated in 1961. I’m surprised that his time in the US Army wasn’t mentioned. He did what many other males did at that time: Do your military time & then go to college. I visited Jim in Penn Yan & accompanied him for a weekend at Syracuse Univ. where we stayed overnight on a couch at Phyllis’ sorority on the SU campus. We each enjoyed wearing a “PYA” tie for tie-required dinners at the TDC fraternity. The ties were made from a thick material with the orange & blue colors of PennYan Academy–very unattractive & creating excessive conversation.
He was also a football player on the UR freshman team in 1957. I knew that Phyllis died & that he moved to Tacoma, WA but our contact was minimal in later years. I lived in Spencerport for most of my life & had no idea that he was in Brockport. I was doing meals on wheels in Brockport as recently as 2024.
Please send me notice of any memorial service or similar happening. I am in FL until early May, 2026.

    • Hello Fred, I really appreciate you sharing the details about your time with my dad. I moved dad up to Brockport recently to help care for him. Syracuse is his true home, though as always, dad connected with the people he lived with in Brockport at Evergreen Place Assisted Living. I wish I had known you were so close to us, he would have loved to visit with you! Keep an eye on his obituary page, when we have a date for the memorial service it will be here: Jim’s Memorial Service

  3. Andrea , Chris and Family , your Dad sounded like an amazing gentleman! So very sorry for your loss. Our prayers and love are with you all. You all were blessed by a perfect man. Live the pictures Andrea! Love Michelle and Michael Michaud❤️

  4. I loved having him sit behind me in church with Hattie Peters. Their Sunday morning conversation just made me smile! He was always very aware of something I was wearing or doing with my hair and he made me feel special! Condolences to his family and know how lucky you all were to have such a wonderful man in your lives! God bless!

    • Hello Sharon, Thank you for sharing your memory. You and all the people at Borodino UMC were very special to Dad. He and Hattie had a remarkable and wonderful friendship. I was glad I was able to bring Dad to visit her over this past summer.

  5. One of the finest men that I have ever met. I had the privilege of being in his company at many family gatherings in Brockport, New York. I was always greeted with such warmth and a smile that always made me so very comfortable. RIP Jim and enjoy your everlasting eternal life with your amazing Phyllis.
