November 16, 2014 at the age of 90. Predeceased by his parents James Sr, and Veronica, his sister, Doris Payne. Survived by wife, Dorothy E. Payne (MacNally); children, Sharon (Anthony) Cammarata, Deborah (Joseph) Janowicz, James A. (Colleen) Payne III; grandchildren, James (Rachel) Novak, Christopher (Michelle) Novak, Jennifer (Christopher) Schwab, Jason (Holly) Janowicz, James A. (Emily) Payne IV; Ryan (Shannon) Payne, Michael Cammarata, Christopher (Jennifer Wallace) Cammarata Lindsay (Kevin Roy) Cammarata; great-grandchildren, Alexis Schwab, Ella Schwab, Kalin Novak, Alexis Novak, Emily Novak, Elizabeth Novak.

No Prior Visitation. James's Funeral Service will be celebrated SATURDAY, NOV 29 at 10 AM at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Lane (between 390 Long Pond Rd). Interment White Haven Memorial Park.

James was born on September 10, 1924 in Rochester, NY. He lived on Kirby Place in the south wedge section. James attended grade school #13 and Monroe High School. James was a Deputy Chief of the City of Rochester Fire Department. He was considered incredibly dedicated as he served over 42 years at the RFD. James was the first captain on the Snorkel truck and he also was a teacher at Monroe County Fire Academy. During his life, James was 32nd degree Mason and attained his pilot's license.
James and his wife, Dorothy met at church. Their families were very good friends. James and Dorothy were married on June 21, 1947. James enjoyed traveling in in his trailer with his family all throughout New York State. He and his family also traveled to Myrtle Beach and Florida. James was very active in his children's lives and their activities. His home was one of the first in his neighborhood to have a swimming pool in the backyard. James liked to play instruments such as the trumpet and the tuba. He also enjoyed playing golf and was known to always listen to the police and fire radios. James also liked watching sports, as he was a New York Yankees fan and a Buffalo Bills fan. He also liked watching educational shows on TV. James was described as a typical man of his era. He was known to have a Type-A personality, strong-willed, resilient and hardworking. James was also seen as humble and a kind at heart. He was a dedicated and heroic person who had a positive impact on the many people he touched in his life. James will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
