John H. Maier Greece: July 25, 2019. Predeceased by his wife, Clara Capurso Maier; brother, Carl Maier; sister, Janice Mueller. Survived by his children, John (Dawn) Maier Philip (Vincenza) Maier; grandchildren, Joshua (Lucy Norton) , Christopher (Ashley Hurrell) , Meghan, Kyle, Jonathan, Justin; sister, Carol (Jim) Paduchowski; numerous special friends and family. John's life story will be shared during visitation at the funeral home, Sunday, July 28 from 4-7 pm 1411 Vintage Ln (between 390 Long Pond Rd). John's Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at Our Mother of Sorrows Church, 9:30 am, 5000 Mt. Read Blvd, Rochester. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Veterans Outreach Center , 447 South Ave, Rochester, 14620 or Our Mother of Sorrows Church. John was born on October 6, 1931 to Carl Mina Maier. He was raised in Rochester, NY with his siblings, Carl Jr., Janice and Carol. During his youth, John was a bat boy for the Rochester Red Wings baseball team and enjoyed playing basketball and baseball during high school. Later on, he played softball for KPAA (Kodak Park Athletic Association). John honorably served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, he was a Staff Sergeant stationed in Japan. John met his future wife, Clara Capurso at Markowski's bar. They married and had two children, John and Philip. John and Clara were married for 52 wonderful years. Some of his favorite hobbies were fishing, golfing and boating. John was a member of the Crimson Club and enjoyed many fun gatherings through out the years there. He loved the NY Yankees baseball team and liked to spend his free time at the YMCA with friends. John was blessed with many grandchildren and he cherished going to all of their activities and sporting events. Though out his life, John went on many memorable vacations. They traveled to Muskoka Lake, Hawaii, Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head and Mexico. What he loved to do the most was spending time with all of his family, the Maier's and the Capurso's. John was known to like to watch war movies and tell war stories. He was described as a quiet man who was very devoted to his wife Clara. He also had a good sense of humor and liked to joke around. John will be dearly missed by all who loved him and his memory will always live in the hearts of his loving family and friends.
