Remembering Joseph C. Cervini “Joe”
Joseph C. Cervini, lovingly known as “Joe,” was born on February 3, 1962, in Rochester, NY, to Charlotte and Anthony Cervini. His father, Anthony, was a barber and entrepreneur, and his mother, Charlotte, was a hairdresser. Joe was raised in a close-knit family, alongside his siblings—his doting sister Gail O’Malley said Joe was like our own baby boy, we dressed him, played with him, and read him many nursery rhymes. He was our special Joe Joe. As the years went on, Joey became a close friend. We shared many family events and many laughs. We always had fun times with Deb and Joe. Joey, you will be in my heart forever. His sister, Lynn Cervini whose special memory was comforting little two-year-old Joey in the church nursery while Mom went off to teach Sunday school. His sweet interactions with the other kids were a prelude to the kindness and gentleness he always expressed to others as an adult. She will love and miss him forever, his brother Tony Cervini, his business partner, and his sister Judy Yantachka said we all remember Joe’s sweet smile and kindness. He had a heart full of love. His warmth and generosity touched everyone who knew him. Joe deeply cared for us, and especially for Jodie, Julie, and Michael. Joe (Uncle Joe) is in our hearts forever. We will cherish the memories, laughter, and love he shared with us always; and sister Paula Schantz, who loved him deeply and will hold him in her heart until they meet again in heaven.
Joe attended Thomas Edison School, followed by Gates Chili High School where he played football, and eventually Monroe Community College. He built a successful career, becoming a co-owner of Cervini Garage. As an ASE Certified Master Mechanic, Joe was respected for his skill and dedication to his work. He was also a proud member of the Genesee Conservation League, reflecting his deep love for nature and the outdoors.
Outside of work, Joe had many hobbies and passions. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, hunting, and fishing, often spending time with his close friends and family. He met the love of his life, Debbie, at a bachelor party, and they were married on June 18, 1994, at Holy Family Church. Together, they shared many happy years, bowling in leagues and enjoying each other’s company. They enjoyed listening to music and attending live music events. Though their vacations were limited in later years due to his work commitments, Joe and Debbie had planned to travel more after his retirement, which was scheduled for September. Sadly, Joe spent 91 days in the hospital after his retirement and passed away before he could fully enjoy the fruits of his labor.
Joe was a passionate fan of the Buffalo Bills and spent many Sundays watching games with his close-knit group of friends and family. The group often enjoyed football, pool parties, cookouts, and supported each other through life’s challenges. Joe’s favorite saying was “Beautiful,” a reflection of his positive outlook on life and his love for those around him.
Joe was a talented musician in his younger years and played the drums in a band with his cousin, David Cervini. He also enjoyed listening to The Beatles, and sports—especially Buffalo Bills and PGA Golf—were a constant source of enjoyment for him. In his quiet moments, he could be found watching “Two and a Half Men” or anything related to sports or comedy.
Joe’s most remarkable qualities were his loving and caring nature, his ever-present smile, his loyalty, honesty, and his hardworking attitude. He found it challenging to stick up for himself, but his family and friends always knew him to be someone who would go out of his way for those he cared about. His mother, Charlotte, was his biggest influence, shaping him into the man he became.
Joe leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and love that will continue to resonate with everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His family and work were the cornerstones of his life, and although his time was cut short, the memories he created will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
