  1. A distinct memory I have of my uncle Joe is during a brief period in the early 90’s my mother, brother, Uncle Joe, Gramma and I were living together. At about 6:30am every morning i was leaving to walk to my bus stop and Uncle Joe would come in New Balance shoes and all from his daily 5 mile run. Amazing man and will be missed. Thanks for the $100 check all us nieces and nephews would find in our mailboxes every year at Christmas time. Expensive with our big family. Very generous man who will be missed. God Speed, Maritime Admiralty. Love,

    Your Nephew Andrew P.Wargo

  2. To the Family of Mr. Wargo: My sincere condolences to all of you at this very difficult time. May your cherished memories and the wonderful future promises of God (Isaiah 33:24; John 5:25-29), strengthen and comfort you through the difficult days ahead. I am sorry for your loss.

  3. Joseph Wargo, my inspiration to excel and see beyond the wonderful world I grew up in. He taught me many of life’s lessons, lessons in respect, family, education, culture, punctuality, and health and fitness.

My influence in culture – Uncle Joe brought Grandma and I to Washington DC, the cultural melting pot of our Country, several times during my childhood. It was an opportunity to experience life outside the world I knew that included riding a subway, visiting historical monuments, and eating authentic food that I had never heard of like Peking Duck and various Thai dishes.

My influence in health and fitness – I remember being about 5 years old, living in Hilton, NY and having my uncle show up at our home because he literally ran from what I assume might be Grandma’s house in Greece, NY to see me! I truly believed he was “The Bionic Man”. I couldn’t wait to show him my first pair of Nike sneaker because they were just like his and I was going to run like he did. I became certified in SCUBA diving because he did. My son, Scott, has also experienced life under the sea because of his influence.

A lesson in punctuality – Grandma and I couldn’t believe he left Aunt Marie at home because she wasn’t in the car to get us to the airport on time. I’m not sure if he was anxious to get us back to Rochester or he was just a stickler for punctuality. Aunt Marie can probably offer more insight on that.

A lesson in respect – he spanked when it was needed and apparently I only needed once for talking back to my mother.

My influence in family – he traveled all over the world and experienced what most would consider the finer things in life, but Joseph Wargo was a grounded man. He was home in Rochester like clockwork to ring in the New Year with his family. He sent his mother flowers on HIS birthday to honor the woman that gave him life. If I could select only one role model for my boys, it would be Joseph Wargo.

In addition to the betterment he has made to many during his lifetime, he continues to improve life for future generations. His final years were definitely not without purpose. The education and improvement of the quality of life for those suffering with PSP will move forward because of Joseph Wargo. We, the Wargo family, should feel very proud and honored to have such a wonderful man in our family, to influences our future generations. “Rock On Uncle Joe”!!!

  4. Joe was widely recognized as one of the good guys in DLA budget. You could count on him for straight information – even if you didn’t like the answer. To me he always had a Peter Pan quality – someone who could fly off to Aruba to dive. He left us too soon. Please accept our condolences on your loss.
