I’ve been away for the past month and just learned of Ken’s passing this morning, at Sunday Mass. My sincere condolences to his family. I sat with Ken at Mass regularly and we’ve been friends for many years, another Radio Operator. Had some good times at his place there on the lake keeping those antennas up! I gave him much credit for his perseverance in managing the annual 13 Colonies Awards, something myself and many others would have been unable to do. Ken also provided the QSL cards for the International Lighthouse Radio Weekend there in Charlotte, right behind his Holy Cross Church. Very proud to have known him throughout the years. In my prayers, Ken. Jim
Rest in Peace Ken, you are back together with your wife. The ham radio community will miss you dearly. You gave us a ham radio event that will live on probably as long as the country that you loved and served.
Thank you for your service to this country, and to the amateur radio community.

73 and God speed,
DE N8UAD
In Honor of Kenneth J. Villone, KU2US
Across the air, his voice once rolled,
A signal clear, a heart of gold.
From Conesus Lake to skies above,
He shared his faith, his life, his love.
A soldier strong in years gone by,
Who served his flag beneath the sky.
With honor earned and duty done,
He lived with pride—America’s son.
He built a world where voices blend,
Where strangers meet and hearts transcend.
The 13 Colonies—his dream made true,
Uniting many, yet led by few.
A husband faithful, steadfast, kind,
A father’s strength, a brilliant mind.
He found his peace by water’s side,
With Martha’s memory as his guide.
Though now his call sign fades away,
His spirit speaks in quiet ways.
In every dawn, in every star,
We’ll hear him still—both near and far.
Rest easy, Ken, your work complete,
Your signal now in Heaven’s sweep.
The band is still, the key now free—
God’s frequency has welcomed thee.
73’s Ken KU2US
