Margaret Kay Boros (“Peggy”), 73, passed away on September 7, 2026, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York, surrounded by family, after living with MS for years and a fight with cancer at the end. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Peggy loved music, languages, travel, and bringing people together. She was caring, feisty, and unafraid to speak her mind.

Peggy was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to John Louis Boros and Mae Belle Boros and grew up in Rocky River, outside Cleveland, Ohio. During her senior year of high school, she was an AFS exchange student in Carpi, Italy. She learned Italian and formed deep, lifelong friendships with her host family, classmates in Carpi, and fellow AFS exchange students.

She earned a B.A. from Northwestern University, where she majored in French and Italian, and an MBA from Indiana University Bloomington. She went on to work as a systems and distribution analyst at Kodak, forming friendships she cherished long after retirement.

Peggy met Jim at the Illinois Aikido Club in Chicago. They married on August 23, 1980, and shared more than 46 happy years together, raising their daughter, Larisa, and son, JJ.

Diagnosed with MS in her twenties, Peggy remained very active with the things she loved, including music, languages, and travel. Peggy played guitar and classical piano until Multiple Sclerosis took those away from her. Peggy was also deeply involved in the Cercle Français in Rochester. She shared her love of languages and music with her children, conversing in French and playing instruments with both of them in their childhoods and even learning Spanish later in life to practice with her son.

Peggy prioritized family and maintaining deep, lifelong relationships with friends. She was also passionate about various charitable and political causes. When her children asked what she wanted for Christmas or her birthday, her answer was always donations to causes she cared about.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, James Bishop (“Jim”); daughter, Larisa Bishop-Boros; son, Joseph Bishop-Boros (“JJ”); sister, Connie Bullis; brother, John Boros (and his wife Carol Boros); niece, Emily Bullis (and her husband Mark Mersel); grandson, Finn Padway; granddaughter, Reya Padway; and many other beloved family members and friends. Her granddaughter Reya was born just three days before Peggy passed away, and Peggy was able to meet her by video call.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Peggy’s memory to Doctors Without Borders or The MS Society.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern at the First Unitarian Church of Rochester, at 220 Winton Rd S., Rochester, NY 14610. Please dress comfortably — casual attire is welcome.
