GREECE - January 25, 2020. Mary Jo is predeceased by her parents, Richard Rita Whalen. She is survived by her 2 sisters, Margaret Whalen Maureen Whalen; 3 brothers, Thomas (Kathleen) Whalen, Mark Whalen Louis Whalen; nieces nephews, Heather (Thomas, Jr.) Appenheimer, Eric (Jennifer) Whalen, Monica Whalen, Fiona Whalen Owen Whalen; special niece who was more like a daughter, Amanda (fiance, Max Dunn) Whalen; great-nephew, Thomas Appenheimer, III Great-niece, Jacqueline Appenheimer; beloved Cocker Spaniel, Darby. Mary Jo was a graduate of Nazareth Academy Nazareth College. She retired from the Rochester City School District in 2002 after teaching first grade for 32 years at Virgil I. Grissom School #7. She was a former President of the Friends of Greece Public Library, a 16 year volunteer at Journey Home Hospice and a weekly volunteer at the Aquinas Institiute. Mary Jo's life story will be shared during her visitation, (Day Times Are correct here. The DC version that ran today was incorrect) Wednesday, January 29th, 3-7 PM, 1411 Vintage Lane (Between 390 Long Pond Rd.). Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated, Thursday, January 30th, 9 AM at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 296 Flower City Park, immediately followed by her burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
