Passed away Friday, December 14, 2018 at 67 years of age in Atlanta, Georgia after a long battle with heart failure. He is predeceased in death by his father, Monroe McTaw, mother, Agnes McTaw and brother, Darrell. He leaves to mourn, wife, Marilyn; children, Chataqua McTaw of Rochester, Iesha (Cordell) Cooper of SC, Morena (Jeffery) Davis of Long Island, Marques (Christine), James, Jerren and Karwyn McTaw all of Rochester, NY; grands, Tytiauna Jones, Tarquin Caldwell, Tayauna Kinchen, Ajanae Tillmon, Aurieona Clay, Eric Clay, Darrius McTaw, David Lockworth 3rd, Xzavier, Ma'niayah, Milan, Meghan, Marques Jr. McTaw, Ja'myah Sanders and Jonah McTaw; Great-grands, Kaelani Freeman, David Johnson, Zah'nylia Clay, Anyiaa Traynum, Ayden Clay; sisters, Althea /Linny (David) Lucas of Rochester, NY and Darlene (Verdell) Lane of Lawrenceville, GA; nieces, Dana (Matthieu) Nenneau, Keisha Lane-Smith, Courtney (Jeremy) Jensen, Dionna McTaw; nephews, Derrick (Lynn) Lucas, Doni (Melissa) Lucas, aunts, Venice (Earlita) Morrison, Gwendolyn Kiner, uncle, Reuben Williams. Special friends, Monica, Brandon and Christopher (Camethia) Rosier of Covington, Ga. Monroe's visitation will be Saturday, January 12, 2019, 1-2 pm followed by a memorial celebration of life from 2-5pm at Bartolomeo Perotto Funeral Home (1411 Vintage Lane, between 390 Long Pond Rd) Monroe was born on September 20, 1951 in Coleman, Florida. Monroe grew up in Rochester and attended Ben Franklin HS where his team won the Section V championship in 1970. He was also a member of SUNY Brockport's Golden Eagles 1974-75 Div III Final Four Team and played with The Rochester Zeniths from 1978-81. He loved children and coached several Pop Warner sports. He also enjoyed playing in many of the "Old-Timers" games in the city with ex-teammates. His friends were friends for life. He will be remembered by many as the 6'8" gentle giant that he was. He moved to Florida in 2004 to take care of his mother, eventually moving to Covington, Ga. where he had the opportunity to pursue his other passion; cooking. His last job before retiring was as a chef at Emory College. He had recently received a heart pump at Piedmont's Heart Clinic but unfortunately it wasn't able to save his life. He will be greatly missed.
