Ronald Joseph Marang GREECE - August 10, 2021. Ron, 81, left this world all the better for the love he shared as a faithful husband to Rosemary (Battaglia) Marang; as a loving father to his son Michael Marang, his daughter Kristin Marang, and his son-in-law David Nalepa; and as a devoted Pop to his beloved granddaughter, Zoe Elizabeth Nalepa. He is predeceased by his parents, Joe and Alice Marang. Ron is survived by his elder brother Charles (Sharon) Marang, and his sister Judy (John) Gilligan. He also boasts an exceptional list of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins, many of whom provided additional help and support to Ron and Rosemary as Ron's health declined in recent years. Ron was a member of the Aquinas Institute Class of 1958 and graduated from the University of Buffalo in 1962. He worked for the county of Monroe as a probation supervisor, retiring after 35 years of service. He was a man of faith, a man you could count on. As a boy Ronnie loved growing up on Cliffordale Park and attending Laurelton Elementary School. He spoke fondly of his childhood and fun times spent building forts with friends in the vacant lots near where he lived. He loved riding his bike and working as a paperboy. In his teens, Ron was an excellent student at Aquinas. He made great friends there, where he enjoyed working on the Mission Bouts as a Mission Officer and cheering on AQ as part of what, at that time, was an all-male cheer squad. Ron was a devoted Yankees fan, and especially admired Derek Jeter, Paul O'Neill, and Mariano Rivera. One of his favorite stories to recount was about the time he and his son Mike got to chat with Jeter, O'Neill, and Chuck Knoblauch while in Cleveland to attend a Yankees game at Jacobs Field. Ronnie was also a passionate fan of Notre Dame football. As a family man living in Greece, NY, Ron was a homebody who enjoyed sitting outside in his beautiful yard surrounded by the trees he had planted himself. He was a good neighbor, who enjoyed spending time with his children and their friends, and who patiently taught the little ones how to play baseball. Ron provided all that his family ever needed, the greatest of which was his love. From their very first date and for the nearly 55 years of marriage that followed, Ron always knew how to make Rosemary laugh, as well as make her proud. He was the kind of dad who never failed to give his daughter's hand an extra squeeze before letting go; the kind of dad who never tired of sharing his time and a good laugh with his son. He wanted little more from life than to spend it happily with his wife and children, and his steadfast devotion made it so. He was especially fond of his granddaughter, Zoe, who always brought a smile to his face. The family wishes to acknowledge the exceptional care Ron received from his home health aids-Deirdre, Kendra, Maria, Ebony, and Michelle-from the staff at Unity Hospital, and from the staff at Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center. In his absence, Ron's family is left full of gratitude for him, for God, and for each other. He is now and always will be truly missed. In lieu of flowers, please have masses offered for the repose of Ron's soul. Ron's family will receive friends Monday, August 23rd, 10 AM at Our Mother of Sorrows Church, 5000 Mt. Read Blvd. His Funeral Mass will then begin at 10:30 AM. Internment will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
