Remembering Rose Felice Raimondi
Rose was born February 8, 1935 in Rochester, NY to parents Vincenzo and Asunta Felice. Vincenzo was a skilled carpenter who founded his own remodeling company and Asunta was the family's homemaker. Growing up as part of the Silent Generation, Rose had a challenging childhood. In 1938, when she was only 3 1/2 years old, her mother passed away. This left her motherless for several years. Her father worked many hours to continue to support the family while her older brothers, Ralph and Fulvio, provided all the love and nurturing they could. Ralph was the eldest child and served in WWII. Fulvio, the second child, acted as surrogate parent while Vincenzo worked and Ralph was away at war. Finally, there was Angelo, Rose's twin brother.
Rose attended Jefferson High School and graduated in the class of 1953. She grew up a tomboy who excelled in various sports. After completing her education, Rose worked in the accounting office at JC Penney for many years and ended her working days as a bank teller for Chase Manhattan Bank. Outside of work, she could be found at Ridgemont Country Club, St. Charles Borromeo Church, or with her family watching Yankees and Giants games.
Back during her grade school days, Rose met Cosmo Raimondi. They started dating in 1951 while attending Jefferson High School together. On March 2, 1957, the happy couple married. Cosmo was the one and only true love of her life. They had two children, John and Ron. The family did virtually everything together, whether it was a long drive on a fall weekend, taking day trips, or driving to Florida to visit friends. Once the grandkids came along, the family traditions grew with them. Sunday dinners and attending grandkids' games and performances were a regular and well-loved occurrence. Rose's family was, by far, the most important aspect of her life. She was never concerned about her own happiness or wellbeing - only if her family was happy.
Rose had many close friends (too many to name here) predominantly from her high school class. She loved hosting them, and her house was the epicenter for parties and dinners. Rose enjoyed the music of Neil Diamond and Frank Sinatra, and she liked watching classical movies or the show, "Mike and Molly." She disliked being alone, boring situations, dishonesty, and broken promises. Rose was positive, humorous, and tenacious - a generous and loyal person.
Unafraid to confront adversity, Rose bravely coped with the loss of her husband and the onset of several health issues. During these hardships, she exemplified such strength, character, and tenacity. She never quit, never felt sorry for herself, and always remained positive. Even in her early years she was a fighter. As her family says, "She demonstrated courage that leaves us in awe. Although she may not be with us, our mother will live on in the wonderful memories she provided for us."
