Passed away peacefully on August 6, 2016 at age 95. Rose was predeceased by her sisters and brothers; Thomasina Cicatelli, Mary Nesbitt, Vito Turtu, Martin Turtu, Margaret Turtu, Jack Turtu, Helen Marozzi. She is survived by her family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephew and many dear friends. Her life has been blessed and enriched by loving caregivers; Sandra, Tiffany and Carole. "For them, we are eternally grateful". "Aunt Rose was the "matriarch" of our family and along with her sisters and brothers left a legacy for her family to carry on. She was steadfast in her commitment to family and faith and the deep roots she had in Charlotte, NY. In her later years, as her health declined, she showed great strength and was an inspiration to us all as she faced every new day with grace and dignity. Rose's family will receive friends at Bartolomeo Funeral Home, 1411 Vintage Lane (between 390 & Long Pond Rd.) on Thursday, August 11 from 4-7pm. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 12th at 9:00am, at Holy Cross Church, 4492 Lake Avenue, Rochester, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Cross Church or Hildebrandt Hospice Center c/of Lifetime Care, 3111 Winton Road S. Rochester, NY 14623, in Rose's memory.
Rose was born on January 1, 1921 to Enrico & Olympia Turtu. She grew up in Charlotte neighborhood in Rochester, NY. Rose attended and graduated from Holy Cross grammar school & Charlotte High School where she enjoyed played volleyball. During her high school years, Rose worked at the Children's Convalescent School on Beach Ave. During her adult years, Rose worked as a supervisor at Eastman Kodak in building 313. She devoted 40 years with Kodak. Rose really loved spending her time with her family as she often hosted Christmas Eve and also hosted the Turtu family reunion. During her free time, Rose enjoyed traveling to many places and her favorite place to vacation was in Hawaii. She also liked to bowl, eat Abbotts Custard and attend the Kodak Lunch & Bunch. Rose loved to read the newspaper every day and also many magazines. She is described by her family as sweet, gentle & had a kind personality. Rose loved her family dearly and was considered to be the Matriarch of her family. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by many family and friends.
