The Egyptian analog photography community will remain indebted to this great man.
His instructions and instructions have contributed to our ability to produce chemical acids at a cheap price, in order to reduce the financial burdens of the young Hawaiian cameraman.
Indeed, we succeeded, thanks to the instructions and instructions of this noble master, and produced inexpensive photochemistry, and this encouraged more new amateurs to enter the world of analog photography.
Little by little the number of amateurs increased.
We missed the inspirational and teacher ,, I am really sad.
I am absolutely gutted to learn of Ron’s passing. It’s no exaggeration to say that Ron’s postings on APUG have changed the course of my life. As my interest in analog photography grew, his posts inspired me to switch majors and study chemistry. I finished my undergraduate degree in chemistry last year and have begun a Master’s program in chemistry. I have Ron’s book and have read it many times and used it extensively. Ron was incredibly kind and generous with his tremendous photographic knowledge. He single-handedly forged a community of home emulsion-makers and he brought advanced emulsion making techniques to the hobbyist. It will be immeasurably more difficult to continue this work without Ron.
If there is any way I can help out in getting Volume 2 of Ron’s book published, I would do whatever I could. I am able to make, coat and test emulsions, so if there is experimental work left to be done, I would be thrilled to undertake that work. It would be a real shame to lose the work that Ron put in to this second book.
Miss you, Ron. You brought out the best in us. My deepest condolences to the Mowrey family.
Although I never met Ron personally, I have a great deal of respect for him and admire his intelligence and career. He has countless friends and admirers in the photographic community, including me.
My sincere condolences to the Mowrey family. I never met him except online. He and I are both photo enthusiasts, and I respect his knowledge and willingness to share what he knew with the rest of us. He probably forgot more about photo chemistry than most of us will ever know!
I had the opportunity a couple of times to share some of my dry wit with him through jokes about engineering. He always had a kind word, and often would reply back with a couple of engineering jokes of his own. He will be greatly missed by many.
Many in the photographic community we are totally grateful to Mr. Mowrey for his generosity, effort and patience to share with others his amazing knowledge and wisdom about photochemistry. He had an amazing vault of wisdom he shared with artists and enthusiasts around all planet to help the most he could.
Personally I have learned a lot from him and still I’ll be learning a lot from his writtings that will remain forever, when one needs certain kind of specialized knowledge he searches until he ends in one of his trustworthy, detailed and kind explanations, this is a fact, but what impresses is his beautiful soul.
Condolences to the Mowrey family. Mr. Mowrey was highly respected by thousands of photographic enthusiasts throughout the world. We all greatly appreciated the way he shared his knowledge and his enthusiasm, in a true spirit of helping others.
The world of photography has lost a wealth of knowledge, on the forum APUG as PhotoEng his depth of knowledge was amazing. He was always supportive and informative no matter how misguided the question. It was obvious he was a gentleman in real life from this. May he rest in peace. Anthony – County Cork, Ireland.
The Photography world loses a great chemist and the humanity a great genius!
My condolences to Ron’s family. He was a great friend and teacher that I’ve been the pleasure to work with! I’ll never forget him.
My heartfelt condolences go out to Rowland’s family. His knowledge and legacy will live forever among those of us who value the craft of film photography.
I started his journey in photography at the age of 16 more than 10 years ago, and Ron’s knowledge has been crucial in my career to the point that I also decided to pursue this as an academic discipline.
I want to thank Mr. Mowrey for his service in the Air Force, and also for his valuable research work at Eastman Kodak.

Rest in peace, PE!
I never met Photo Engineer IRL, but I avidly read every word he wrote about photography
Ron answered my direct questions with wonderful kindness, honesty and expertise
Godspeed Rowland Mowrey
