Brian Wydra

Passed away on January 31, 2026, in Syracuse, NY.
Brian lived a life defined by service, dedication, and integrity. He proudly served his country in the Armed Forces before continuing his commitment to protecting others as a police officer. He later joined the fire department, where his leadership and expertise led to his promotion to Lieutenant in Fire Investigations. Brian retired in 1995 following a long and distinguished career.

After moving to the hamlet of Plessis in Jefferson County, Brian became Fire Chief of the Plessis Fire Department and later continued his commitment as a member of the Alexandria Bay Fire Department. He was also a proud member of the Locust Club, reflecting his deep respect for camaraderie, tradition, and the brotherhood of first responders.

In addition to his public service, Brian was an entrepreneur. He owned and operated two businesses-an awning company and a private investigations firm. Through this work, he continued to apply his knowledge and experience outside of his formal career.
Beyond his professional life, Brian found his greatest joy with the love of his life, Elsie Wydra. Together they cherished life’s simple pleasures, watching hockey, sitting side by side as boats passed along the St. Lawrence River, and caring for the animals they both loved. Working hand in hand, they ranched 105 cows and built a farm that became their home, and their sanctuary. Though their days were filled with hard work, the tranquility of looking out to on the farm they built brought them peace and happiness.

Brian will be remembered not only for his years of service, his unwavering sense of duty but for the kindness he showed, the loyalty he lived by, and the steady presence he offered to the lives of those who knew him. His legacy of service, dedication, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to share in his life.

Brian’s life story will be shared during visitation, 3:00-7:00 pm on Tuesday, February 17th at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Lane. Brian’s friends will share memories and reflections during the visitation. Spring Inurnment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
