Born August 3rd 1984, lost to us on September 2nd 2013; is survived by her mother Michele Ann Marks Payne of Webster NY. and David Spangler of Chesapeake VA. Her uncle Andrew and Lisa Marks of North Rose NY. Aunt Donna and Donald Bishop of Boulder City NV. Great Aunts Mary Louise Qualtrough of Fairport NY, and Carol LaValle of Scottsville NY. Along with several cousins, Andrew, Tyrus and Troy Bishop, Vincent and Joseph Marks, and Carissa Fish, as well as step siblings Michael and Shannon Griepsma. Jessica was predeceased by her step father David Hursh of Wolcott, NY Through out eleven years of faithful service to her country, Jessica held seven ranks within the Marine Corps. Jessica enlisted into the Marine Corps during April 2003 and served as a Corporal in the field of Avionics. During this time she earned her Bachelors degree and was accepted to Officers Candidate School after which she served as a Recruit Series Commander at Parris Island SC, Financial Officer and Comptroller at 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton CA, and completed a year long combat deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. Captain Marks drive and capabilities were demonstrated in her achievement of seven consecutive expert rifle qualifications, four consecutive expert pistol qualifications, and near perfect physical fitness scores. Capable beyond words Jessica was an inspiration to her peers, family and the Marines she led. Her character was demonstrated in her kindness, selflessness and humility. Military honors will be conducted at Evergreen Cemetery in Huron NY on September the 14th at noon. Military honors will also be conducted aboard 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton CA. on September 30th at 1000. Donations in Jessica's name should be made to the Wayne County Humane Society.
