  1. Wow.. I had no idea Capt Marks (Jess) no longer with us. Goodness, I have no clue what happen either. We ran into each other at good o’ MCRD PI, she displayed great interest in competitive marksmanship and I was in position to invite her to several matches. She enjoyed anything that went “boom”, was a natural at providing effective fires on target. If someone could email me the wave top version of what the heck happen to Jess, that would be appreciated. Based off what I found online, the cause of death is not mentioned anywhere which I would assume only means one thing… email: rookistits1@gmail.com

  2. Jessica was my dearest and most loved companion in life. Her death was too soon, her life too short. She lives on behind my closed eyes every time they shut. She was an amazing, disciplined, driven, hard working soul with a heart a mile wide and a mile deep. She cared deeply, loved fully, and was exactly the kind of person those around her sought to emulate. Jessica brought light to every room she entered and will be missed. She will never, ever, ever be forgotten. I know she is at peace. Semper Fidelis.

  3. We were heartbroken to hear the horrible news. Jessica had such a contagious, sweet spirit and enthusiasm about her. We had the opportunity to get to know her while we were stationed at Parris Island with her. She was a phenomenal Marine and will be sorely missed. Please accept our sincerest condolences. We are praying for God’s comfort and peace for your family in the days and weeks to come. Sincerely, Maj Brian and Stephanie Turner

  4. Jessica was a part of the 4th Battalion family during 2009 and was one of the only 2ndLt’s in history to fill the billet of Series Commander, normally filled by a 1stLt/Capt. She had a great way about her and there was such a bright light inside of her. We admired her strength in that she transitioned from the enlisted side of the corps to the officer side, which is NOT an easy feat. I had the pleasure of working with her when she was a 2ndLt and also getting to work with her again as a Captain. Her laugh was contagious. Her dedication to being the best Marine was demonstrated in all that she did, from working out, eating right, to just being a first class Marine. She grew into to such an awesome Marine and woman and though we struggle to know that we will not see her face to face to tell her how proud we were of her, we know we will have the opportunity to again. She is our angel looking down on us and protecting heaven’s door as that perfect Marine who continues on with the mission. Semper Fi Capt Marks; you will be missed. Our deepenst condolences to her parents, family, friends, and her dog, Winston.

  5. Jessica was one of my closest friends. My heart is broken, and there is no way to adequately covey in words what she meant to me. I love you, Jess. I hope you are at peace.

  10. I worked with Capt Marks all of last year in Afghanistan with I MEF (FWD). She was a pleasure to work with and a good person. I was shocked when I heard the news. It is hard to see someone as accomplished at her young age leave the world so suddenly. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and loved ones. Rest in peace. Semper Fidelis.

  11. Jessica was a shining star, whose qualities and greatness can be attributed to her Mother, and the Marine Corps., as well as her loving family. We are always so proud of Jessica, of her service and accomplishments. Jessica’s legacy of pursuing dreams and fulfilling them lives on for each of us touched by her.

  12. It’s hard to imagine a sadder situation than going through this. Jessica must have been a fantastic person and I am sorry to have never met her. My thoughts are with Michele, Mary Lou and the rest of the family.

  13. My Deepest Sympathy my dear friend…..no one ever really leaves us…Jessica is forever in your heart and your memories will sustain you in the days to come.
