Peter Paul Hughes passed away on November 12, 2013 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Peter was born in England and was the second youngest of six children. He is predeceased by all of his siblings; Charles, Vera, Betty, Cecilia and Vincent, as well as his father, Edward and his mother, Cecilia. Peter studied at London University where he mastered French and Spanish. He went on to study and teach in many different countries such as England, Spain, France, Canada and then finally in the Rochester City School District where he taught for thirty years. Peter has touched many lives and could not go anywhere around town without someone saying, "Aren't you Mr. Hughes? You taught me". He left quite a stamp on the language department of the City school district. He ended his career at Edison Technical School where he taught part-time and then mentored new teachers the rest of the day. He had a brilliant mind and the patience of a saint. His teaching went far beyond the classroom and into the pool as a high school swimming coach and onto the soccer fields. Peter coached every level from little guy soccer, to travel soccer, to the varsity team at John Marshall High School. His teams won championships and several of his players are now involved as coaches with clubs around Rochester. Many remember him cheering on the sidelines for his own children. He was dedicated to the game as he never missed a game, even traveled around the state and out of state when Hilary played in college. Peter Paul, as he was fondly called by his loving wife Christina, showed his family what love, marriage and life were all about through example. He adored Christina! They met and married while they were both teaching in Canada. They were both offered jobs over the phone and packed the car and moved to Rochester, NY. Peter and Christina were a duo and did everything together. They both held family above all else and Peter did anything to make life good for Christina, Sean, Brendan and Hilary, as well as his beloved Ian, Fiona and Aidan. He gave hours of love and time to Ian, Fiona and Aidan. He was a perfect Papa. He taught his grandchildren how to ride their bikes and tie their shoes. He gave hugs and love unconditionally. Beyond his grandchildren, Peter was known to many in England as Uncle Peter and his trips home brought many of his nephews, nieces and cousins together for family time. He taught us how all how to work hard, how to love and how to stand by what you believe in. He also showed us how to garden, paint, wallpaper, and he also made the best sandwiches. In retirement, Peter went on to teach adults through the Oasis program for adult learners. He was a devote catholic and attended mass everyday. He truly believed God would answer prayers and guide us all to where we need to be. He taught us everything happens for a reason, you may not know the reason at the time, but there is a reason. Peter enjoyed traveling and took several trips to England and Ireland over the years to visit family and visit his homeland. He also liked to take bus trips with Christina and enjoy the sights of the East coast. Peter will be greatly missed by his family and friends, but the lessons he has taught and the love he has given will live on for lifetimes to come.
