  1. Family is the most important to her. Mom loves my Dad, Peter, unconditionally and it shows from their 48 years together, would have been 49 in September. They had so many fun times together, but they worked hard to give us a wonderful life and raised us to be good, caring people. Richard, the youngest, gave mom all of her grandchildren, Jaden, Dimitra and Peter, who she loved immensely. They lit up her face every time she saw them.

Born in Casalbordino Italy, she held a lifelong love of her country. She took me as an 11 year old (Yvonne, oldest child) on a 2 month trip in the summer of 1977 with my grandmother (who is still alive at 97 years old). It is an experience I will never forget; she not only showed me the art and history of Florence, Venice, Rome (the Vatican), Pompeii, but more importantly she showed me the places of her and her family’s childhood in Casalbordino, Pescara and other farms and vineyards of the countryside. Those are the things I will remember most – picking blackberries in the wild and stringing them on a long piece of grass to make a yummy necklace, getting fresh bread, gelato and lupini beans at the shops of her village. Through these experiences, mom taught me how important it is to live in the moment and appreciating the simple, beautiful things in life.

Mom loved driving in the country and would often drive out to Sodus to meet us at the boat (she couldn’t swim so preferred the drive). Along the way stopping at corn stands, bringing home made sauce and creating a feast for us right there on the boat. She’d often say to my Dad, “come on Peter, let’s go for a ride”

Mom’s hobby and passion were antiques and collectables. She was a shark! Aunt Maria said when they would scout garage sales, the car wouldn’t even be stopped and mom would be half way to the sale so she could be the first one there to scope out the “good stuff”! And, boy, she could bargain like nobody else!

Loved baby anything; from kids to animals. She loved chickens (started the trend of chickens in the suburbs!), many puppies (Rocky 1, 2 and 3) and she even wanted a baby hedgehog! Dad decided not to indulge her on that one!

Her nurturing instinct carried on to taking care of people. From watching her grandchildren when her kids were working to being 1st class at entertaining. She always thought of her guests first and make sure they were comfortable. Even during her last days, she wanted to make sure cookies were put out for those coming to visit her.

And even, when my sister (Carla), decided to become a vegetarian, which was hard for my Italian mom to accept – “who doesn’t eat meat”, she would say, she still would go out of her way and make something special for Carla, like Rapini, now Carla’s favorite vegetarian dish.

Mom has this wonderful balance of class, elegance and attitude. In the early days, she would go to Aunt Sally every day to get her hair done before going to work at General Dynamics; watch out Jackie O! She loved beautiful flowers, clothes and antiques. All this, and at the same time she could make you drop to the floor laughing as she told an off color joke or make a funny hysterical comment; she had spirit, a definite character! Her sister, Gina, and my mother-in-law, Elaine, were a couple of ladies who could really make her laugh. She loved to laugh.

    My Love Always Mom, Yvonne

  22. I thought I saw her face today
In the sparkle of the morning sun.
And then I heard the angel say
“Her work on earth is done.”

I thought I heard her voice today
    Then laugh her hearty laugh.
And then I heard the angel say
“There’s peace little one at last.”

I thought I felt her touch today
In the breeze that rustled by.
And then I heard the angel say
    “The spirit never dies.”
